The national coordinator of NACOFAG, Mr. Alieu Sowe has pointed out that revamping agricultural productivity in sub-Saharan Africa requires a two pronged approach which combines effective policy advocacy and practical activities including capacity enhancement to cope with dynamics in agricultural production at farm level and changes in the market place.
NAPSA embarks on tree planting exercise
The Gambia’s minister of Forestry and the Environment Hon. Jato Sillah has emphasized the need to protect and preserve the country’s forest cover. Minister Sillah made these revelations on Tuesday 26th July 2010 at Sifoe Kafoo Farm in Sifoe village, Kombo South in the Western Region. This was followed by the tree planning exercise staged by National Patriotic Students’ Association (NAPSA) in Western Region in various communities such as Sifoe Farm, President Jammeh’s Farm in Sifoe and Basury, all in Western Region.
NEFSA trains local board, VDC on good governance and public accountability
Karamo Demba, the coordinator of Nyodema Environment and Food Security Association (NEFSA) has commended the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP) for supporting the organization in building the capacity of local board on good governance and public accountability. He said that the support provides opportunity for the organization to strengthen the human resource development of Village Development Committee (VDC) in Jokadu in order to enhance their effective participation in promoting socioeconomic development.
District chiefs hail President Jammeh over rapid development
The chief of Kombo Central District, Alhagie Dembo Keleng Bojang and the alkalolu of Sinchu Alhagie and Wellingara in Kombo North, Mr. Ceesay and Alhagie Babou Ndure respectively have hailed President Jammeh for the numerous developments he has brought to the doorstep of Gambians in the 16 years of his government.
Govt. commences building of new legislative house
President Yahya Jammeh has Monday laid the foundation stone of a new National Assembly Complex in Banjul. The proposed legislative house would be built some 200 metres away from Arch 22 and behind the Gambia High School. The foundation stone laying ceremony was part of events marking the 16th anniversary of the July 22nd Revolution.
Gambians to go to polls in 4th qtr of 2011 as new Election House is inaugurated
The chairman of the Gambia’s Independent Electoral Commission, Alhajie Mustapha Carayol has announced that plans are in top gear to hold the presidential elections in the last quarter (between October and December) of 2011. The IEC chairman was speaking last week at the inauguration of the newly constructed Election House on Bertil Harding Highway, Kanifing.
Efficient energy supply vital to reducing poverty

The Gambia’s minister of Economic Planning and Industrial Development, Hon. The event was organized by the Ministry of Forestry and Environment.

Group donates wheel chairs to physically challenged people
A non profitable organization based in Banjul, the Foundation for Disabled People, has Tuesday donated 10 wheel chairs to disabled men and women, valued at the tune of D50,000. The handing over ceremony was held at the foundation’s headquarter in Banjul.

New nursery school inaugurated at Manjai
A new nursery school, Seino Kindergarten Nursery School in Manjai-Kunda was Saturday inaugurated as the first batch of pupils also graduated to Grade One for the first time since the school started operation ten years ago.

Students trained on disaster issues
Bracing to overcome the unusual number of fire outbreaks, the Environment Builders and Youth Entrepreneurship Organization in conjunction with the Disaster Management Agency on Tuesday trained students of Saint Therese’s Upper Basic School on disaster management. The purpose of the training was to enlighten the students of the said school on ways and manners of reporting disaster situations especially fire outbreaks as well as the preventive measures of disaster.
Jammeh declares Qcell as ‘The Best’
Gambian leader, President Yahya Jammeh has praised the QCell Limited and its chief executive officer, Mr. Muhammed Jah for expanding the choice which mobile telephone users in the country now have as well as doing so in the cheapest possible rates. The president was speaking Saturday at the official inauguration of the QCell Building on Kairaba Avenue. The inauguration which came one year after the commercial launching of the QCell mobile telephone service was part of the 16th anniversary celebrations of the July 22nd Revolution. He said QCell was undoubtedly “the best”.
