Ousman Jammeh, The Gambia’s minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad is currently leading a three-member delegation to visit Taiwan from March 6 to March 10, 2010. The other delegates are Madame Haddy Sey Jammeh, and Hon. Maudo Touray, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad. The minister’s visit which is at the behest of the Taiwan government will focus on exchange of views of mutual concern as well as strengthening bilateral ties. According to information from the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation will meet with the President Ma Ying-jeou, and call on Dr. Charng Kao, Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council, as well as Ambassador Wen-lung Tao, Secretary-General of the International Cooperation and Development Foundation (TaiwanICDF). The Taiwanese Foreign Affairs Minister, HE Timothy Chin-tien Yang will also be hosting a luncheon in honor of the delegation. The trip will be rounded off with visits to the National Taipei University of Technology, for discussions with Gambian students, as well as to Sun Moon Lake, the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village and Shilin Night Market. The Gambia has been a keen supporter of Taiwan and has always staunchly supported Taiwan in its quest to participate meaningfully in the United Nations, the World Health Organization and other international organizations. Since the re-establishment of diplomatic ties in 1995, the two countries have successfully undertaken various cooperation projects in the areas of agriculture, education, infrastructure construction, medicine and public health.
