The Global Economic Freedom 2010 Index, which tracks the degree of economic freedom in the world, has scored The Gambia's economic freedom at 55.1, putting the economy in 20th place on a scale of 46 countries surveyed in Africa. On the global level, The Gambia was ranked 118th. While these figures ratings look comparatively positive, they actually represent an overall score that is lower than the world average and a 0.7 slip from the country's score last year which was 55.8.

Govt commits to greater transparency as it mulls allowing private sector and civil society monitoring of public expenditure

Groups plant trees in NBR
